D’vorah asked me to write an article about the incredible success I’m experiencing by participating in Amazon’s Marketing Services. Disclaimer: I am a beginner – a beginner with AMS, but not in beginner marketing. I’ll be referring to tools I used that I think are relevant to my success. Everything I say may be about beginner’s luck, but I think it’s about having great support in the author’s community and being lucky enough to have written a book about a popular keyword.

Results so far: I concluded my first month with one ad on AMS. I have spent $47.55 on pay per click ads. That has paid for 319 clicks. My cost per click has been $.14 to $.15. My estimated sales have been $268.39.  Sales figure reflects gross sales, not profit. I estimate my profit to be 70%. My advertising cost of sales has been 16% to 18%.

This process is only available for Kindle books, although I think it also stimulated some print book sales. My Kindle book sales for this month for Letting It Go: Relieve Anxiety and Toxic Stress in Just a Few Minutes Using Only Words (Rapid Relief with Logosynthesis®) were 36 books. In each of the 30 day periods before I started this process, I sold 15 or 16 books.

Advice, I followed (from Amy Collins and Judith Briles): Allow a seven-day trial for a nonfiction book, Set a daily budget of $10, Offer more than Amazon suggested as the cost per click…

  • Offer one dollar per click with the assurance that I would pay much less.
  • Use a sponsored product pay per click ad, rather than display advertising.
  • Start with at least 100 keywords.
  • Use more and include both the names of books that were my main competition and names of the authors of those books. I used 2000 keywords that came mostly from variations derived from the Google Keyword Planner (type into search), as well as those titles and authors.

Creating my ad: AMS produces a pretty clear, fill in the blanks, template for the ad. I wrote my ad and checked the appeal of each line using various online resources.

I’m looking forward to using this process to revive sales on some of my earlier books.
